Peptides by Sex & Life Stage

Almost all peptide doses were first worked out in men. Your sex, and where you are in life, changes how your body responds, so the same dose can land differently. Here’s what actually changes, in plain terms. (Each compound’s own page also carries a Women / Men note.)

The basics (true for everyone)

  • Match the dose to your body. A dose figured out in an average man is often too much for a smaller person. Bigger body usually needs more; smaller body, less.
  • Adjust to how you respond. The right dose is the one that gets the result for you, judged by your bloodwork, your weight, and how you feel; not a fixed number on a chart.
  • Start low, go slow. Women tend to get more side effects (especially stomach upset) at the same dose. Easing up more slowly reaches the same place with less grief.
  • Your own hormones interact with these. In women, the monthly cycle and estrogen shift the response; in men, testosterone does. The details are below.
  • Rule out pregnancy first (women). Confirm a negative test and use reliable birth control before starting, several of these harm a pregnancy or affect fertility.

What changes if you’re a man or a woman

Type of peptide Women Men
Growth-hormone peptides The body is less responsive, often needs more to raise IGF-1 (the lab marker these move). Estrogen pills push that marker down; an estrogen patch is more predictable. Turns growth hormone into IGF-1 more efficiently, easy to overshoot the healthy ceiling for your age. Aim for the middle of the normal range.
Weight-loss shots (Ozempic-type) Tend to lose more, with more nausea. Can help PCOS and fertility, which also means surprise pregnancies happen; tirzepatide can weaken the birth-control pill. Tends to raise testosterone and protect fertility, unlike testosterone shots, which shut sperm down.
Sex & fertility peptides Cycle timing is everything, some are 100× stronger near ovulation; hCG triggers ovulation; PT-141 is for low desire. hCG and kisspeptin drive testosterone & fertility; PT-141 is for erections.
Repair, energy, brain, cosmetic Mostly the same for everyone; just scale to body size. The monthly cycle doesn’t matter here. Mostly the same for everyone; just scale to body size. The monthly cycle doesn’t matter here.
Tanning peptides (Melanotan, PT-141) Both: can darken skin and moles (keep an eye on any that change) and have a sexual effect; desire in women, erections in men. Both: can darken skin and moles (keep an eye on any that change) and have a sexual effect; desire in women, erections in men.

Why estrogen matters for GH peptides (women): estrogen taken as a pill lowers IGF-1, the lab marker these peptides are meant to raise. So a normal dose can look like it “isn’t working” on paper when it actually is. A patch or gel doesn’t do this, so the reading is cleaner. And on a natural cycle, IGF-1 drifts over the month; note which cycle day you tested on.

What changes at different life stages

Sex Stage What it means for dosing
Women Still cycling Time the sex/fertility peptides to your cycle; the estrogen note above applies.
Women Perimenopause Cycles turn irregular, so calendar timing isn’t reliable; go by symptoms and bloodwork instead.
Women After menopause Nothing to time to; the ovulation-based uses don’t apply, and PT-141 (Vyleesi) is approved only before menopause. GH peptides & weight-loss shots still work, but low estrogen already thins bone and fast weight loss speeds that up, so protect your bones (lifting, protein, a DEXA scan). The GH/IGF-1 cancer risk also climbs with age, finish your screenings first.
Men Younger / wants kids Prefer hCG or kisspeptin (or a weight-loss shot if it’s really about weight) over testosterone shots, which shut sperm production down.
Men Older Testosterone is falling and the prostate is aging, check PSA before GH/IGF-1, and watch that your blood doesn’t get too thick (too many red cells).

Pregnancy & breastfeeding (women)

Group Peptides What to do
Stop before trying Weight-loss shots (sema/tirz/reta), GH peptides, IGF-1, Melanotan, most whole-body peptides Not safe in pregnancy, stop and let them clear first (semaglutide about 2 months).
Only if prescribed hCG, kisspeptin, GnRH/Triptorelin, oxytocin Use only when a doctor prescribes them for fertility, pregnancy, or labor.
Usually fine Cosmetic creams (Matrixyl, GHK-Cu cream) Used on the skin, still check with a provider, and pause if unsure.

A real example: adapting a man’s protocol for a woman

Protocol Man’s default (from its page) What to change for a woman
CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin (growth hormone) ~100 mcg of each, at night; aim for a mid-range IGF-1 for your age. Start at the same 100 mcg, you’re dosing the receptor, not body weight. Expect a smaller IGF-1 bump (her body converts less), so move up sooner. On estrogen pills? IGF-1 reads low, switch to a patch for a true reading. Recheck IGF-1 at 6 weeks.
Semaglutide (weight-loss shot) 0.25 → 0.5 → 1.0 mg, stepping up about every 4 weeks. Confirm a negative pregnancy test + reliable birth control first. Same step-up, but hold each step longer if your stomach is sensitive. These can weaken the birth-control pill, use a non-pill backup during the ramp.
PT-141 (sexual) 1.75 mg as needed, for erections. Same dose, but it’s for low desire, not erections; and Vyleesi is only for before menopause. Take it ~45 min ahead; expect some nausea/flushing.
